2018: Teach Your Children Well

Madeline Levine, Ph.D. delivered a provocative keynote address emphasizing the importance of teaching children creativity, collaboration, and innovation as necessary tools for success in a 21st century world.  She explored why teenagers are experiencing epidemic rates of emotional problems and how our current narrow definition of success unnecessarily stresses academically talented kids and marginalizes many more whose talents and interests are less amenable to measurement. Workshops on the following day focused on how to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills with children in and outside of the classroom setting. Gary Stager and Sylvia Martinez, the “gurus” of makers space curriculum presented a full day workshop for educators that had teacher creating electronic pianos and problem solving real life challenges.
